Company History

Softex Plus Inc. founded in 1996 as a company which develops and implements information technologies, in 2008 is starting a completely new project in publishing.

Publishing Mission

Prevalence in the world of mental disorder related diseases is not diminishing in the last years. Despite the fact that effective methods are available, many people with mental problems do not get the treatment they need. The priority of Softex Plus Inc. Publishing is to bring to public attention such problems as the building up of people’s mental health, mental disorder prevention as well as treatment, rehabilitation and taking care of persons with mental problems. International Journal of Addiction Research, Psychotherapy, International Journal of Mental Health Research, Medical Genetics and Pathogenesis journals were created for the same aims.

One of our main ideas is a systematic discussion of ethiology, pathogenesis and diagnostics of psychosomatic disorders and their therapy as well as rehabilitation of patients with these problems. There is hardly any doubt today as to the importance of psychosomatic medicine because psychosomatic disorders morbidity is on the increase while the traditional approaches to their treatment do not seem to be very effective.

In different countries different diseases are regarded as psychosomatic: from classical psychosomatic disorders down to diseases indirectly influenced by stress factors. Usually cardiac ischemia, hypertension, duodenal ulcer, bronchial asthma, pancreatic diabetes and some other conditions are described as psychosomatic. Persons suffering from psychosomatic disorders may for a long time, in some cases for years, receive treatment from doctors specializing in different areas with no result. This fact may be explained by the complexity of the task to create an adequate concept of interconnection between psychic and psychosomatic spheres.

The concept of psychosomatic disorders developed from a rigid idea of stress being the cause of the disorders to systematic models that have appeared recently which take into consideration a large number of physiological and psychological factors. These models presume that the quality of life of patients with psychosomatosis of different nosological forms must be studied from medical, psychological and social points of view simultaneously.

Publishing Strategic Plan

To fulfill this mission the Publishing House is planning to launch the following journals in 2008 and 2009:

  •  International Journal of Addiction Research (trial releases - since 2008, regular releases - since 2009);
  •  Psychotherapy (trial releases - since 2008, regular releases - since 2009);
  • Pathogenesis (trial releases - since 2009, regular releases - since 2010);
  • International Journal of Mental Health Research (trial releases - since 2009, regular releases - since 2010);
  • Medical Genetics (trial releases - since 2010, regular releases - since 2011).

This journal list is still open. The choice of these spheres of medical science and practice is determined mainly by the existence of the corresponding Russian research schools which for reasons of traditional closeness of the Russian society are little known outside. But researchers and clinicians from the former Soviet Republics (Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belorussia, etc.), China, India and a number of European countries (Germany, Italy and others) are also ready to join us.

 Hopefully, this Euro-Asian cooperation will be fruitful and will interest many. Therefore we count on cooperation with individual professionals and institutions in different countries. We are aware that the growth of the number of our partners and of new authors participating in our projects depends on many factors and cannot be fast, yet we are sure that their geography and number will grow steadily.

As we plan, the above mentioned journals will consist of three main parts:

  • a) a review of existing methods and strategies for solving the problems named by the journal's title;
  • b) a review of news, events, documents and publications in the corresponding area of science and
  • c) original professionals' articles pertaining to the particular sphere.

It is worth pointing out that what we plan is to cover strategies and policies on all levels: international, regional, corporate, family and personal. As we see it, precisely this sort of journal structure meets the globalization challenges in the development of science.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is meant as a venue for a regular constructive dialogue between adepts of scientific methods and those of empiric approaches in psychotherapeutic treatment and counseling.

Psychotherapy is a dynamically developing discipline whose effectiveness could be achieved through a synthesis of common scientific methods and individual innovative approaches, through a synthesis of Western rational attitudes and Eastern intuitive insight.

Psychoterapy’s mission is therefore unique. It is a meeting point for different schools within psychotherapeutic science and practice, on the one hand, and a venue for consolidation of psychotherapy as a single medical subject.

Psychotherapy is targeted to researchers, theorists and leading practitioners and counselors. It’ll be also of interest for professionals in adjacent fields, scientists and students.

The reader will be provided with material pertaining to different variants and trends in psychotherapy.

The journal will also cover such organizational aspects of the world psychotherapeutic community as activities of the World Psychotherapy Council, European Association of Psychotherapy, Asian Psychotherapy Federation, national psychotherapy associations. It’ll publish information on the World Psychotherapist Certificate and lists of those awarded with the Certificate, reports on the most important conferences and congresses, major international and national regulative documentation in the sphere of psychotherapy, etc.

According definition of the European Association for Psychotherapy (Appendix 1 to the Board Minutes, Siracuse 17th to 18th of October 2003): "The practice of psychotherapy is the comprehensive, conscious and planned treatment of psychosocial, psychosomatic and behavioural disturbances or states of suffering with scientific psychotherapeutic methods, through an interaction between one or more persons being treated, and one or more psychotherapists, with the aim of relieving disturbing attitudes to change, and to promote the maturation, development and health of the treated person. It requires both a general and a specific training/education".

In the treatment of psychosomatic patients, pharmacotherapy is often supplemented by a number of psychotherapeutic methods including psychoanalytical therapy, hypnotherapy, autogenic training, suggestive and auto-suggestive therapies, behavior therapy, person centered and group therapies, cognitive, supportive and exercise therapies. In psychosomatic patients rehabilitation sphere also new approaches are being developed based on self-help, rehabitational concept and psychotherapeutic aspects. Precisely for this reason one of our top priorities is launching Psychotherapy journal.

Pathogenesis

International Journal of Mental Health Research

Prevalence in the world of mental disorder related diseases is not diminishing in the last years. Despite the fact that effective methods are available, many people with mental problems do not get the treatment they need. Mental health is defined as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.

According to WHO’s monitoring:

  • Mental, neurological and behavioural disorders are common to all countries and cause immense suffering. People with these disorders are often subjected to social isolation, poor quality of life and increased mortality. These disorders are the cause of staggering economic and social costs.
  • Hundreds of millions of people worldwide are affected by mental, behavioural, neurological and substance use disorders. For example, estimates made by WHO in 2002 showed that 154 million people globally suffer from depression and 25 million people from schizophrenia; 91 million people are affected by alcohol use disorders and 15 million by drug use disorders. A recently published WHO report shows that 50 million people suffer from epilepsy and 24 million from Alzheimer and other dementias.
  • In addition to the above figures, many other disorders affect the nervous system or produce neurological sequelae. Projections based on a WHO study show that worldwide in 2005, 326 million people suffer from migraine; 61 million from cerebrovascular diseases; 18 million from neuroinfections or neurological sequelae of infections. Number of people with neurological sequelae of nutritional disorders and neuropathies (352 million) and neurological sequelae secondary to injuries (170 million) also add substantially to the above burden.
  • About 877,000 people die by suicide every year.
  • One in four patients visiting a health service has at least one mental, neurological or behavioural disorder but most of these disorders are neither diagnosed nor treated.
  • Mental illnesses affect and are affected by chronic conditions such as cancer, heart and cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and HIV/AIDS. Untreated, they bring about unhealthy behaviour, non-compliance with prescribed medical regimens, diminished immune functioning, and poor prognosis.
  • Cost-effective treatments exist for most disorders and, if correctly applied, could enable most of those affected to become functioning members of society.
  • Barriers to effective treatment of mental illness include lack of recognition of the seriousness of mental illness and lack of understanding about the benefits of services. Policy makers, insurance companies, health and labour policies, and the public at large – all discriminate between physical and mental problems.
  • Most middle and low-income countries devote less than 1% of their health expenditure to mental health. Consequently mental health policies, legislation, community care facilities, and treatments for people with mental illness are not given the priority they deserve.

The priority of Softex Plus Inc. Publishing is to bring to public attention such problems as the building up of people’s mental health, mental disorder prevention as well as treatment, rehabilitation and taking care of persons with mental problems.
